About the Live Feeds example
The XML for this page is taken from the publicly available RSS feeds at the BBC's website. I would have liked to use the technology feed as it was more appropriate for the site, but it was not updated as often so the live functionality would not be visible, or there would be a long wait until it was!
A small counter starts off the process so only 1 request is made to the BBC every 10 seconds. When the XML is retrieved it is stored in an array and the index of the array and the published date for each item was put into a database and sorted. The output is then saved as a HTML file on the server and every other request for the next 10 seconds uses the "cached" file.
