28: It's all coming together

/projects/cms/ Well, I haven't written nything in this calendar for a while. That's not because I haven't been working, far from it. I've been updating the cms for asp websites. There's only a little piece of live javascript used, so it's going to be easy adding it to the php template too. Allowing the website owner to update their own website is a large benefit to offer, especially when it is really easy for them. I think I have made a system that fulfills that criteria. Recently I have added more characters, and made the script that includes them output valid HTML. I've added an upload progress bar (that's going to be the most difficult part of it, but nothing I can't cope with). I will update the page referenced above when it is complete, with help pages for its users (and reference pages for me!).

10: Updated Accounts Page

/cms/accounts/ Updated my accounts page and its output. I have court tomorrow for non payement of council tax so have to do my books. I wasn't pleased with the accuracy of its output as it was throwing occassional errors, but realised it was at int(n*100). In one place it was giving £26.27 instead of £26.26 but I realised just by multiplying a stringed integer by 100 gives the correct amount. I had already set up a decimal to currency converter, which is set up to always give 2 digits after the decimal point, so that making sure the output was in the correct form. After a late night checking with a calculator I'm a lot happier with its accuracy. Now to convert the whole lot to PHP so I can offer it in both templates.

9: Fixed path in cookies

/ Fixed the path variable for cookies in the asp template as they weren't being deleted properly as some had no path set and other had it set to '/'

8: Improving CMS pages

/cms/ Making the various CMS pages available from a common page. This simplifies the navigation and improves user experience by making it more intuitive.

5: Improved cookie functionality

/ When I first started web designing the use of the button element was avoided as browsers sent different values to the server. Some sent the value in the same way a submit button did, and others sent the innerHTML value. I have discovered recently that all browsers send the value of the button, which is much easier to work with at the server as I previously used image inputs, which require much more server processing. Over the last couple of days I have been updating the options that appear at the top-left of every page, changing them all from inputs to buttons. I have also scripted in the ability to delete all cookies, and a warning when this is about to happen if clicked unintentionally.

2: Livescript CSS3 Gallery

www.parkertiling.co.uk/gallery/ Updated Nick's gallery page. Uses the automatic scrolling and CSS image sizing. Enhanced with CSS3, and the enhancements look awesome in Chrome and Safari.
